Ingredients

Country chicken pieces500g
Toor dal (cooked)1 cup
Namma Nati Koli Sambar Masala2.5 tbsp
Tamarind paste2 tbsp
Drumstick1 (cut into pieces)
Shallots8-10
Tomatoes2 medium
Curry leaves2 sprigs
Mustard seeds1 tsp
Oil3 tbsp
Saltto taste
Jaggery1 tsp

Instructions

Cook the Dal

Pressure cook toor dal with turmeric until soft and mushy. Mash well and set aside.

Cook Chicken

In a large pot, heat oil. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves. Add chicken pieces and sear for 5 minutes. Add shallots and tomatoes, cook until soft.

Add Masala & Vegetables

Add Nati Koli Sambar Masala, mix well. Add drumstick pieces and enough water. Cook covered for 15 minutes.

Add Dal & Tamarind

Once chicken is almost done, add cooked dal and tamarind paste. Add jaggery for balance. Mix well and simmer for 10 minutes.

Final Tempering

Heat a little oil, add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Pour over the sambar. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving with rice.
